Playing with Your Camera

Photography is my job.

Photography has been my lifelong curiosity and tool for exploring my journey through this life.

Those things make for a weird marriage when it comes to creating. On the business side, there's the expected deliverables that clients have, especially within the documentary work I do. That demands some consistency, clarity and to varying degrees, a lack of play and experimentation. On the other side lies the desire to play, to do something new and not routine, to come up with different style images or things that feel different from my usual flow and give me space to learn and grow and have fun.

Months ago, some targeted advertising hit me and struck home. I saw some options to play and took a shot on them. In between that time and now, I haven't made the time to play with them much. With my mother in town and a friend's themed birthday party, I figured this was a great time to take it out, get familiar with it, and take the self-imposed pressure off of needing to deliver something special. It's so easy to get lost in the mindset of work that I forget it's ok to just go out and take pictures that don't really have a home or place. These were some good opportunities to remind myself of that.
