Election Coverage in Arizona

November 19, 2024 On Assignment

I was lucky enough to connect with The Times of London a few weeks before the election. They originally reached out about a different assignment I was unavailable for, but followed up later, asking if I was available for election coverage. I had previously been planning to do my own election coverage, so I gladly jumped at the assignment.

It was a bit of a flying by the seat of my pants assignment, looking for anything and everything happening while working alongside a reporter. I came prepared with PPE in case of protests and post-election violence, which thankfully never arose. It was a stressor looming over the assignment and a relief when it never came to pass. By and large, it was a quiet assignment with limited photographic opportunities. The reporter and I worked between Tucson and Phoenix, talking to various people and documenting what was a quiet election. I was lucky to work with an accommodating and supportive team that made me feel taken care of and able to focus on the task at hand.

I photographed a presser from election officials, a Kamala-Walz rally the eve of the election, some polling locations, and a little of whatever else I could find in between. Thanks to Charles at The Times for all his support and belief in me as we worked through this evolving assignment. Rallies are always eye candy, so this post is a little heavily weighted in that direction. But that's what blog posts are for! There was a lot of general election coverage, but here's some of my favorite visuals from a couple days in Arizona:
