Harvard

August 26, 2024 Events

Events are some of the most consistent work a photographer can find in Los Angeles. They've been a great source of income for me and often result in me seeing cool things or learning about interesting things I otherwise wouldn't be exposed to. They were also some of the first professional gigs I ever had. One even led to me meeting Maya Angelou.

This spring, I covered an event for the Harvard College Fund, hosted in Beverly Hills. I made the standard photographs that are needed from events. Clients often want to see the space and how it looked, both before and during, and people interacting throughout the event. Some of the fun things with shoots like this is looking for an interesting angle or lighting that might make a photo that much more interesting. In some of the pre-event photographs, I'm looking at the space and seeing what my best angles might be when it's filled with people. I'm also taking that time to figure out the color casts (this had a lot of different light colors flying around) and how my camera should be set, or areas that might be best suited for using flash only.

Here's a look at some of my favorite photographs from that evening.
