BTS: Freemason Play

One of my favorite things about getting to photograph for California Freemason is all the history I get to see in their buildings. It often feels like I'm stepping into a time machine and going back 100 years or more. For this assignment, I was at the Pasadena Scottish Rite building in Pasadena, a beautiful, historic building, to photograph behind the scenes of a Freemason play.


I loved being in the dressing room, where historic photos of prior actors trimmed the ceiling of the room. A book full of their proper costumes with polaroid examples of what their character should be dressed as rested on the counter. Makeup chairs from bygone decades sat behind racks of costume clothing and surrounded by character wigs. I was surrounded by history and I loved it.
